Choc-tops, popcorn and blockbuster flicks – Palace Cinemas is reopening its doors

Choc-tops, popcorn and blockbuster flicks – Palace Cinemas is reopening its doors

The enticing scent of buttered kernels wafts through the air, as you pass movie posters and near the cinema entrance. You find yourself sitting in a cushy reclining leather chair where you dig into your bag to find a packet of Maltesers just waiting to be devoured. Then, the big screen in front of you lights up and it's showtime, baby. Sounds like a dream? Well, fellow film lovers, this experience will soon be reality again, as Palace Cinemas has locked in a date to reopen.

Both Palace Cinemas James Street and The Barracks are set to reopen and welcome cinema-goers back from Thursday July 2. The cinemas will be primed and ready to stamp tickets to a huge selection of new-release films including The High Note starring Dakota Johnson, Judd Apatow’s The King Of Staten Island starring Pete Davidson, Christopher Nolan’s time-travelling blockbuster Tenet and the Aussie-made Babyteeth.

To ensure the safety of both patrons and staff, Palace has added some additional operation procedures to the usual cinema-going experience. These new rules include capped theatre capacities in line with Government regulations (at the moment, this is 20 people per session), seating allocation to maintain social distancing (group bookings will be allowed to sit together) and hand sanitiser at every point of service and in every foyer. There will also be staggered sessions to reduce foyer congestion between screenings, an increase of contact surface cleaning and contactless payment for all your favourite movie snacks and beverages. Sneaky champers, anyone?

Online bookings are essential. Head to the Palace Cinemas website to peep what’s coming soon.
