Unplug to unwind – QT Hotels & Resorts launch Power Down

Just like our smartphones, tablets, laptops and fitbits, we all need to recharge to function correctly. Unfortunately, our favourite devices are often the cause of our exhaustion – even in our designated down-time we struggle to put down the tech. With the growing popularity of smart home devices like Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa it’s starting to feel like there is no total escape. This is where the concept of Power Down originated, QT Hotels & Resorts’ new digital detox package. The holiday makers are offering to take charge of your devices while you enjoy a detoxing hotel escape – a rare chance to disconnect from tech and reconnect with yourself.

QT Gold Coast is one of eight locations across Australia offering the Power Down digital detox package to technology-weary guests. Those who opt in for this option will enjoy the usual comforts of a hotel stay with a few key additions (and one noticeable subtraction). From 7:00 am to 7:00 pm you’ll be relieved of your devices by hotel staff who’ll store them in the impressively named and mysteriously located QT digital device vault. During detox hours, there’s time to enjoy the comforts of accommodation uninterrupted. When not enjoying the facilities, you can explore your detox extras including Beauty Chef Glow Powder, Luv Sum protein balls and a Bath Brew Giant Tea Bag, which is exactly what it sounds like. After soaking in your own life-size brew, a complimentary Lululemon yoga mat can be used for more active activities and if any separation anxiety sets in, a QT Wellness Guru is also on-call for all of your moral support needs.

While your mind detoxes, your body can too with a chef-prepared in-room dining selection. The menu includes a lot of bowls, which are the health food crowd’s current vessel of choice. Enjoy a Sea and Omega Bowl with sushi rice, miso-glazed salmon and edamame, a Clean Tummy Greens Bowl with broccoli, zucchini noodles and spinach, or a Nourish Bowl with wild black rice, smoked hummus and vegan falafel. If you’ve had one bowl too many you can also try out the Plane Food Energy Box with two boiled eggs, smashed avocado, a bran muffin and cultured yogurt. All meals served to digital detoxers are prepared using the best locally and sustainably sourced products from Australia’s most innovative producers. If bowls aren’t quite your idea of total relaxation, you can kick back with a bottle of red and cheese platter in room instead, or enjoy a cocktail at the bar and a selection from bar menu.
