This forward-thinking micropublisher is spotlighting Brisbane venues with its Take away book series

The minefield that is 2020 has been a difficult year for every industry to navigate, with the hospitality sector taking a particularly hard hit. Helping the industry to turn a new page is Somekind, a crowdfunded and community-focused micropublisher that has developed a food and drink book series that supports businesses during COVID. Following several successful chapters in other states, Somekind's Take away series has now launched two new editions in Brisbane, spotlighting a duo of dynamite dining and drinking destinations.

Somekind Press’ Take away book series was launched in March with the hope that it would help keep local venues alive as well as keep creatives busy during lockdown. The crowdfunded project, which has 17 successful book launches under its belt, has featured a plethora of top Australian restaurants, cafes, venues including Hobart’s Sonny and Victoria’s Geelong West Social Club and Lee Ho Fook. The process is simple – eager readers pre-order their book of choice and if the title sells 100 copies within ten days, the book goes to print. If the pre-order quota isn’t met, all funds are donated to the venue – a win, win really.

The Somekind team are kicking off the newest chapter of its book series in our sunny state, opening the page to two much-loved Brisbane hospo players – the jamon, hip-hop and sherry drinking destination Alba Bar and Deli and James Street’s gastronome hero Gerard’s Bistro. Each book is 96 pages of goodness and is brimming with eye-catching photography, up to 25 mouth-watering recipes and other restaurant-related content that is sure to draw in even the most die-hard foodies. The two books kicked off sales on Friday October 23 and will be available for pre-sale for ten days. The lucky first 100 people to purchase a copy get their names printed in the book – and the satisfaction of knowing they made these editions a reality.

Want to add one (or both) of these bad boys to your book shelf? Hop over here to pre-order your copy.
