Sustainability and beauty converge to create surō jewellery

Lusting over jewellery can now be done with a lot less guilt (provided you keep ignoring those credit card statements), courtesy of ethical Sydney label surō. Every stunning piece has been handcrafted by a small team of artists using ethically sourced, raw and sustainable materials wherever possible.

Hearts twisted in gold, shattered in silver, perfectly smooth and heavily textured – surō’s new ‘released from love’ collection is aptly titled. Reflecting both self-love and mutual romance, the new-release necklaces can be worn two ways, depending on your mood: smooth, or rocky. Meanwhile, the collection’s earrings offer a combination of the two opposing states, encouraging the wearer to decide their mood.

Fashion photographer Hannah Roche and writer L.D. launched the label in late 2017, aiming to create a high-end brand based on transparency, morality and contrarianism. The stunningly unique pieces created by surō embrace refined imperfection and aim to defy the traditional views of jewellery as typically perfect, unblemished and flawless. An ethical mindset extends to every step of the process at this label – from sourcing recycled materials (such as .925 sterling silver sourced from silversmith refinings) as much as possible to producing packaging from certified ethical materials.

Shop the two collections on the surō website, check out the stunning pieces in-store or online at Arnsdorf, or online at The UNDONE.
