The Culprit Club and Lil J’s Vintage team up for new Winn Lane crib

When storied clothier and accessories depot The Outpost closed up shop last month, many wondered what would fill its coveted Winn Lane space. As it turns out, its successor was already waiting in the wings. The Culprit Club has gamely set up inside the space, wasting no time in turning into a vibrant hub of art, apparel, magazines and events.

The Culprit Club started from humble beginnings, first setting up its pocket-sized shop in the heart of Winn Lane. Owner Sarah Hazlehurst grew the business from a pop-up gallery space and store into a networking hub for artists, writers and musicians, eventually turning her operation into a vital tenant of the Fortitude Valley laneway. After The Oupost called it quits, Sarah gamely put her hand up to take over the space, enlisting Jacqueline Cowan of Lil J’s Vintage to combine their efforts for a new store.

Taking over the larger space immediately affords Sarah and Jacqueline a bit of extra elbow room, evidenced by the substantially larger gallery wall. Collaborations with artists and bigger shows are already on the cards, with more sizeable pieces taking pride of place at the back of the venue. More merch space is also readily available, with Lil J’s vintage streetwear and The Culprit Club’s collaborative range of apparel adorning the racks. The coming months will see the crew establish a zine library, while the upstairs loft level will be set up as an artist residency space and pop-up DJ booth for event nights.
