Truth&All handcrafts eco-friendly, sustainable and recyclable eyewear

World Oceans Day saw the launch of a sustainable new eyewear brand created by a pair of Aussies based in Singapore.

Buying your next pair of sunnies may not feel like a particularly big deal, but their impact on the environment can be far-reaching, which is why entrepreneurs Gemma Vincent and David Hearn created Truth&All. After a disheartening trip to Malaysia that saw the couple overwhelmed by beaches strewn with plastic pollution, the pair started making small changes around their home before their conversation turned to establishing a sustainably minded company. Nine months later, Truth&All was born.

Rather than focusing on recycled plastics, the founders wanted to treat the problem at the source and tracked down the M49 bio-based acetate produced in Italy. Oil-free, eco-friendly, recyclable and biodegradable, the lightweight and comfortable M49 is made from sustainable wood, cotton and natural resins. It’s also produced in sheets, which are cut by hand rather than moulded by machines, thereby reducing the environmental impact even further. This material is then distributed to Greece, where it’s handcrafted into eyewear along with scratch-resistant, UVA- and UVB-protection lenses by a family-run, socially responsible company. No tiny detail has been overlooked at Truth&All, from the credit card holder and strap in the case to the five-barrel hinges and eco-friendly glasses cloth, delivery box and company cards. The company also boasts a giveback initiative, with 15 percent of profits being funnelled into sustainable projects around the world. Check out the range online.
