Sport a pair of post-petroleum sneakers from French footwear company VEJA

Did you know that the majority of running shoes on the market are made from a material that is 99-percent plastic, specifically, a polymer that is 99-percent petroleum? It doesn't take a scientist to know that doesn't bode particularly well for the future of our planet. The good news is that there's a cleaner alternative. Introducing The Condor, the first post-petroleum running shoe from French footwear company VEJA.

It took four years of hardcore research and development to create VEJA’s first ecological running shoe that is not only kind to your feet but also Mother Nature but friends, it was worth the wait. Bringing together various new technologies, the sleek shape is inspired by the bone structure of the south American bird, with biomimetic design, flexibility and lightness that is efficient for running. The Condor strikes the perfect balance between organic materials and running optimisation with 53-percent natural-based and recycled materials including plant-based ricinus oil and alveomesh, which is made from recycled plastic bottles.

As well as being better for the environment, The Condor ticks all the boxes when it comes to a performance running shoe in terms of functionality. The high-tech sneaker is available in six unisex colourways. Still not convinced? Meghan Markle was spotted sporting a pair of the brand’s V-10 trainers on her royal tour of Australia so we can only assume she’s since upgraded to the new ecological version. VEJA’s The Condor sneakers are made in Brazil in a factory that respects worker’s rights however if you’re keen to treat your feet to a pair they are available online through Net-a-Porter.
