Australian artists and Indian craftswomen collaborate on Wmen The Label

Natural fabrics, semi-precious stones and a sustainable mindset combine at this ethical Australian womenswear label.

Female empowerment is at the core of Wmen The Label, where socially responsible clothing, jewellery and silk accessories are handcrafted by women, for women. Talented Australian female artists design exclusive prints, which third-generation Indian weavers and artisans then transform into resort-inspired pieces. The collaborative label also focuses on sustainability, by incorporating natural fabrics such as biodegradable mulberry silk produced in traditional weaving houses with minimal carbon footprint and natural stones including agate and onyx, as well as metal buttons rather than plastic. Wmen The Label is striving towards a zero plastic production policy and plans to ship all products in compostable bags.

Through collaborations with artists such asĀ Anjana Jain, Christina Inserra, Lorena Gonzalez and Saloni Chavda, Wmen The Label aims to celebrate our natural environment by sharing stories and promoting awareness. Its latest collection, Reef Revival, highlights the beauty and fragility of the Great Barrier Reef, while also supporting the Great Barrier Reef Foundation with 10 percent of profits from the range being donated to scientific research. Wmen The Label pieces are currently available at a pop-up shop in South Melbourne markets, but Brisbane fans can browse and purchase silk dresses, pearl jewellery and more online.
