New southern arrival Brewed on Cuthbert brings specialty coffee and all-day brunch bites to Yatala

If you reside on the northern Gold Coast or Brisbane's far south, or you're a frequent traveller between the two cities, you'll be acutely aware that local spots where you can sit and enjoy specialty coffee and all-day brunch bites (you know, like sourdough crumpets with vanilla mascarpone and Kewpie-drizzled karaage-chicken burgers) are few and far between. Sure, there are a handful of places in that pocket, but let's be honest – much of the action gravitates towards the coastline or north to the big smoke. Yatala's Brewed on Cuthbert is a tasty new arrival here to fill the geographical gap, along with the gap in your stomach, satiating those early-morning coffee urges, eggs-Benny cravings and everything in between.

Brewed on Cuthbert is the handiwork of Alison and Peter Turner, who set out to bring quality coffee and refined cafe eats and treats to the northern tip of the Gold Coast and the gateway to Brisbane. As former owners of The Coffee Club in Pimpama, Alison and Peter are no strangers to the hospitality game – the duo stepped away from the franchise model to create their own space that not only offered them a lot more creative freedom, but also allowed them to work more closely with and shine a spotlight on Southeast Queensland producers, farmers and makers.

Armed with locally roasted blends from the Gold Coast’s own Blackboard Coffee Roasters (which pours from 5:30 am weekdays and 7:00 am on Saturdays), Brewed on Cuthbert dishes up a menu of all-day eats alongside a cabinet brimming with grab-and-go bites like sandwiches, salads, savouries, locally made cakes and more. If you’re hanging around in the sleek industrial-style 50-seat space, built by Peter himself, you’ll be choosing from morning eats like loaded avo smash on seeded sourdough, house-made waffles with toppings that rotate weekly (think banana with lashings of salted caramel, vanilla-bean ice-cream and biscuit crumb), a classic eggs Benedict, and sourdough crumpets topped with roasted balsamic strawberries and vanilla-bean mascarpone.

The menu flows into lunch-style eats like a toasted Reuben sandwich on rye with silverside, sauerkraut, melted cheese and spicy mayo, a towering BLT with a fistful of fries, and two burgers – a karaage-chicken number with cos lettuce and kecap manis-infused Kewpie, and a wagyu beef burger with mustard (essential), house relish and cheese. The Brewed on Cuthbert team will be securing the venue’s liquor licence shortly, which will allow trade to expand with Friday-night knock offs and Sunday sessions featuring local tap beers and bites. Keep an eye on its social pages for when the after-dark fun kicks off!

Brewed on Cuthbert is now open. Head to the Stumble Guide for its opening hours and contact details.
