Paddington’s resurgence as a catch-all culinary hub continued in 2019 with the addition of coffee joint Blackout. The moody pitstop comes from the crew behind The Black Lab Coffee Co. (also known for St. Lucia pitstop If You Say So), and is a dependable coffee dispensary that trades every single day of the year. Blackout relocated one space over in 2022, opening a similarly slender cafe space boasting a moody and dark palette – think concrete, faux brick wall cladding and grey tiles across coffee counter, retail shelves and small interior seating area. Blackout 2.0 is equipped with a gleaming new Sanremo F18 coffee machine and a set of self-serve batch brew taps, while a retail shelf houses bags of beans and brewing apparatus for at-home coffee drinkers. Espresso drops are being made using The Black Lab Coffee Co.‘s Platinum blend, while single-origin filter brews will feature on the taps. A small food cabinet stocks bacon-and-egg muffins, sweet treats and flaky pastries, though the offering is expected to change once the team’s baked-goods concept mis•spelt Bakery opens next door.
