Despite being relative newcomers to Brisbane’s caffeine scene, Cassie Porter and Pablo Leiva are as passionate about the brew as any life-long barista. The duo behind South Brisbane coffee pitstop Coffee Head Co. decided to enter into the local cafe mix after noticing a dearth of cafes that sold coffee well into the afternoon. Taking on a vacant space a mere stone’s throw from Melbourne Street and Musgrave Park, Cassie and Pablo set about installing their vision for their dream coffee haunt – a space that blended ethical practices with top-notch brews and bites, plus a sprinkling of aesthetic influences from Pablo’s own Peruvian heritage. Coffee Head Co. more than fills a need for all-day caffeine injections – the nook is open and brewing until midnight, seven days a week. Since opening in March 2019, night owls have come to roost within Coffee Head Co.’s lived-in interior, which boasts bookshelves (with books for sale), comfy furniture and a great atmosphere. During the day folks can soak up the sun in the adjoining laneway area, or simply stop by for a grab-and-go boost from the coffee window. Speaking of coffee, Bellissimo Coffee has been recruited as key bean supplier, with espresso, filter and cold-drip brews on offer (as well as all the best milk substitutes). Soon Coffee Head Co. will also add a rotating selection of single-origin beans to its roster. Non-coffee drinkers can also sip on handcrafted tea from the Sunshine Coast, gourmet hot chocolate from Mörk, lucuma hot chocolates and organic matcha lattes, all while snacking on treats from Stella Pastry.
