Brisbane City’s Elizabeth Arcade is in the process of a complete transformation, soon to be revealed as FudoDori. Translating from Japanese to ‘food street’, FudoDori will be just that – the arcade will be lined from Elizabeth to Charlotte street with a veritable smorgasbord of food outlets. The team behind the dining destination want FudoDori to be a social experience just as much as it is about the food, believing that food is only as good as the people around you. The concept allows diners to engage in a roaming dining experience, working their way through the arcade to sample different dishes along the way. The style of food will progress through FudoDori – the Elizabeth Street side will cater more to daytime eating with cafes and grab-and-go bites, with the offerings becoming increasingly suited to evening until reaching Charlotte Street, which will be dedicated to late-night ramen bars and sake-fuelled izakayas. Kyoto-style modern Japanese cafe Koto Sanpo (which recently opened on the Gold Coast) will lead the FudoDori offering, opening its expansive flagship store on Elizabeth Street in late March/early April. The remaining 10–12 tenancies will gradually open following Koto Sanpo, offering the likes of godzilla (jumbo) gyoza, Japanese hot dogs, ramen and other Japanese and non-Japanese delights. We’ll keep you posted with more updates as they are revealed.
