New Farm locals were blessed with a new brunch haunt when Joedy’s Cafe sprung up on Sydney Street in early 2020. The cafe is the brainchild of 11-year hospitality veteran Joedy Kyle, who has worked across several casual and fine-dining institutions (including Blackbird Bar & Grill and Black Hide by Gambaro) since moving to Brisbane in 2012. With a deep-seated passion for providing memorable food experiences and making people happy, Joedy elected to strike out on his own and open a community-oriented cafe in New Farm, one where guests were treated to a customised experience based around fare made from top-notch local ingredients. Joedy refitted a cafe space (formerly home of The Frond) conveniently situated across the road from New Farm Park. The Joedy’s Cafe menu spans breakfast, brunch and lunch, with stand-out dishes including ube waffles topped with fresh berries, white chocolate ube sauce and black-sesame ice-cream, the chilli scrambled eggs with smoked Western Australian octopus, breakfast panna cotta with house made granola, blueberry cream cheese and fresh local fruits, and the Balinese marinated pork burger with fried free-range egg, house made chilli mayonnaise and slaw. Bellissimo Coffee is on hand for caffeine seekers, serving espresso-based and batch brews alongside cold-pressed juices from HRVST ST and kombucha from Probiotic Kitchen. An on-site retail space boasts a selection of products including take-home packs of coffee, coffee-brewing apparatus, house made Murray River pink-salt scrubs, chutneys, artisan chocolate from Amy Sargeantson and even a collection of cafe merch.
