The doors have only been open at California Lane natural-wine bar Queens for just over two weeks and already the crew behind the neon-lit nightspot is working on its next project. Next month the Fortitude Valley laneway will welcome Kings – a laid-back cocktail and dining garden promising to be the tropical-inspired yang to Queens’ moody yin. Taking on the space previously occupied by The Stand, the Kings team will transform the open-air space, giving it a fresh look that will be an amalgam of cyberpunk, lofi 1980s LA, and tropical themes. The existing bar will be extended to better cater for King’s bar offering, which will focus more heavily on cocktails. Expect a dedicated margarita menu – offering between six and eight varieties – alongside a slimmed down range of natural wines. Food is also like to feature, with a neighbouring commercial kitchen space used to serve a selection of tacos and po’ boys. Commercial Road Public Bar’s beloved drag shows will score a new home at Kings, too, with the stage utilised for monthly performances alongside gigs for small bands, electronic artists and DJs. Entry to the venue will be via Queens and California Lane.
