Nestled in a leafy residential strip of Stanley Street in East Brisbane is Ruco Cafe – a welcoming coffee pit-stop that has been charming locals since first opening at the beginning of 2019. The cafe is named after its owner Ruco, who spent years working in restaurants in Japan before relocating to Australia and starting a family. Now that her kids are older, Ruco has jumped back into hospitality, opening a coffee and brunch spot imbued with her friendly personality and family friendly vibes. While small, Ruco and her family have shaped the space to be very easy on the eyes, implementing an elegant colour scheme based on yellow, gold and white. Perfectly positioned with plenty of traffic exposure, Ruce Cafe has been luring in patrons seeking a satisfying grab-and-go bite before their commute and a coffee as well as those eager to leisurely dine on site. Coffee is the main focus here, with perfectly poured cups of Campos coffee offering that much-needed morning jolt, but the goodness doesn’t stop there. Ruco has sourced a selection of teas from Japan, including authentic Japanese green tea as well as varieties from Lupicia Specialty Tea. Fans of matcha will be stoked to know that Ruco imports genuine matcha powder from Japan for its matcha lattes – some of the best you’re likely to taste in Brisbane. On the food side of things, Ruco Cafe serves up light brunch fare including Ruco’s own raspberry coco bread, bacon-and-egg grilled sandwiches, crispy tuna corn mayo toast and avocado smash, as well as assorted pastries from Danny’s Bread.
