The craft-beer brewing boom has seen a spike in the number of breweries opening across Brisbane, sending ripples of beery goodness from the centre of town out into the suburbs. Those ripples reached Redcliffe Peninsula in 2022 when brand-new waterfront brewing hub Scarborough Harbour Brewing Co. opened to the public in April. The project is brainchild of Sonia and Guy Schweitzer, a pair of Moreton Bay locals that were inspired to enter the craft beer game after taking in a slice of the international micro-brewing industry on their overseas travels. They’ve secured a cracking spot to set up a base of operations, taking on the two-level site formerly home to function and event space Waters Edge at Scarborough Marina. A substantial fit-out process saw the ground-floor space of the building turned into a brewery and taproom, with Scarborough Harbour Brewing Co.’s two-vessel, ten-barrel Tiantai brew house nestled in the heart of a rustically quaint space boasting copper and recycled timber textures across interior and waterfront seating. The upper floor has also received some minor cosmetic works, with an airy dining space and deck offering the perfect perch to sip some cold ones. Speaking of which, the brewery’s first core beers are available – the easy-drinking Reef Point lager, the Thirteen Hills XPA, a mid-strength drop called the Mariner and The Bay west coast IPA, with a hazy IPA and pale ale also on the way. These mainstays will eventually be joined by limited-run beers (think stouts and Belgian-style brews), but non-beer drinkers can already wet their whistle with ginger beer, cider and cocktails off tap, an elevated selection of craft spirits, and a wine list comprised of independent and predominantly Australian labels. A food menu features fresh seafood, tasty burgers, succulent steaks and one giant parmi – plenty of great grub to feed all comers.
