It’s been a long time between drinks, but West End’s iconic The Boundary Hotel is set to officially reopen its doors this Thursday November 29, just in time for summer. The historic pub, which dates back to 1864, has been undergoing a $3.5-million transformation over the past 18 months, giving it a new lease on life while retaining its authentic local-pub charm. In its 154-year history, The Boundary has only had three different owners and current owner Colin Macleod from Oz Pub Group has vowed to keep its history alive – he even sought approval from the Pitt family, who ran the pub for 9o years. The revitalised The Boundary will be a multi-purpose destination offering dining, events and entertainment, taking inspiration from Sydney venues such as The Grounds of Alexandria and Coogee Pavilion. It will feature West End’s only rooftop bar, a laneway, bars, live music, a pizzeria, a gaming room, event spaces and a courtyard offering grazing plates. But it hasn’t been a case of ‘out with the old’ – The Boundary’s original 1928 steel beams have been brought back to life alongside a number of other historic features, including the famous hand-painted XXXX sign from the old drive through.
