Here’s a bit of news that will make the lycra-clad crowd of Brisbane want to pop a wheelie – a riverside bikeway cafe boasting bespoke facilities for cyclists will feature as part of Queens Wharf’s groundbreaking development. Velo Cafe will be a purpose-built two-storey destination a range of amazing amenities, from an elevated cafe and bar with river views, a mini pop-up cafe catering to those cruising along the revitalised foreshore, and an end-of-trip bike facility and workshop. That’s not all – cyclists that ride into the city for work will be able to take advantage of toilet amenities, lockers, change facilities and showers, with the cafe itself connecting to Queens Wharf Road via a lift and stairs for easy access to The City proper. The team at Destination Brisbane Consortium will be undertaking extensive landscaping and resurfacing works to upgrade the existing bikeway and public foreshore area. Expect Velo Cafe to open in 2023 – keep your eyes on The Weekend Edition for more news on the Queens Wharf development.
