Brisbane’s oldest surviving home just so happens to be situated in one of the most picturesque locations in the city. Newstead House was established in 1846, and has stood at the top of a hill overlooking the Brisbane River ever since. In 1876 the house was renovated and extended to reflect the Victorian period of design. The house is now a heritage-listed property that acts as a living museum, filled with vintage treasures and historical memorabilia such as Sir Thomas Brisbane’s pipe, an 1889 signal cannon and more. Guided tours are available for history buffs, while the surrounds are available for hire for a variety of functions such as weddings, photo shoots, live music concerts and picnics.
