From winter feasts to mega markets – our must-dos at James Street Food and Wine Trail

There’s a damn good reason that people love James Street – from the amazing sartorial selection to the unbeatable atmosphere, the designer precinct offers a range of luxury unlike anywhere else. As much as we love swanning around enjoying the amazing shopping on offer, the dining scene on James Street holds just as much of a place in our hearts – which is why every year we eagerly await the James Street Food and Wine Trail. Running from July 25–28, the annual event is back bigger and better than ever – so we thought we’d give you a taste with some must-do events throughout the festival.

A Taste of Winter – Friday July 26
Here in Queensland we really don’t get a lot of weather variation, so for the few weeks when the temperature drops it is a great time to take advantage of comfort food. This cosy evening at King Arthur will see head chef Liam Gregory pivot from the eatery’s famed brunch fare to turn out a five-course winter feast using the freshest seasonal produce. Local vibes and a made-from-scratch approach guarantees that this will be a night full of top-notch nosh – we would highly recommend going for the matching natural wines package if you want to take it next level.

Wine Meats Cheese – Saturday July 27
The title of this one says it all, really – who are we to argue with such an unbeatable combination? Beloved charcuterie hotspot Gerard’s Bar will be hosting this dreamy afternoon of flowing wine paired with mouth-watering meats and delectable cheeses. Give yourself over to two hours of weird and wonderful epicurean selections painstaking curated by the best people in the game.

80s + 90s Disco Party – Saturday July 27
Tell you what we want, what we really, really want? A night jam-packed with throwback bangers, flashback vibes and enough nostalgia to transport us back to our youth (well, some of us). Revellers will descend upon Sixes and Sevens for a night of pure magic – bust out your best moves while the DJ spins classic tracks from the eras, replenishing your strength with a specialty finger-lickin’ food and beverage menu. You can also party hard knowing that your recovery options the next day are delicious – which brings us to …

Market Day – Sunday July 28
The crowning jewel of the James Street Food and Wine Trail is its annual Market Day, shutting down the street and turning it into a full-on food festival. This year the space is bigger and better than ever – a stretch from McLachlan to Arthur Street will be hosting no less than 27 pop-up food stalls showcasing the best eats on the strip. Add in live music, tastings, a pop-up kitchen and live demos (alongside a very exciting activation that we’ve cooked up with Mas & Miek Ceramic House) and you’ve got all the makings for a huge day out.

This is just a small sample of what you can expect during the James Street Food and Wine Trail – we’ll have a closer look at all of the juicy Market Day details very shortly. In the meantime, scroll through the James Street website and get planning/drooling.
