Powerslide your way to being a pro at Skate Paradise

Calling all sidewalk shredders! From June 22 to July 7, don your helmets and kneepads, grab your skateboard and head to Paradise Centre in the heart of Surfers Paradise, where a skateboarding mecca awaits. Over the winter school holidays, the beachside venue will be home to a huge skate ramp, skate shows, breakdancing performances, fun kids’ workshops, giveaways, and more. Ready to carve it up? Read on for all of the cool details …

To be a skater, you first need to look like one. Get some fresh threads from Paradise Centre’s shops like VansSurf Dive N’ SkiPlatypus ShoesStateside SportsSkechersRip Curl and Fast Times Skateboarding. Those who spend $50 or more in one transaction at participating stores from June 22 to July 7 can take their receipt to the giant spin wheel near the new Newsextra from 1:00-5:00 pm daily for a chance to win a share in $15,000 worth of incredible prizes including Paradise Centre gift cards, skateboards from Fast Times Skateboarding, retailer gift cards, Vans socks, cool merch and more! Heck yes!

Once you’re all decked out, you can say hello to Skate Paradise, Paradise Centre’s pop-up school of skate that’s ready to teach grommets some gnarly skills on four wheels. Kids can fasten their helmet and kick off their skating story at a range of free skateboarding clinics hosted by the local crew from Rock ‘N’ Slide Skateboarding, at 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:00 pm, 2:30pm, 3:00 pm, 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm daily. Held in the beachfront dining precinct on The Esplanade, these ten-spot classes are suitable for children aged four through to 12, and all equipment is supplied! Bookings are mandatory and open on Thursday June 1 here. Bonus – every workshop participant will receive a free goodie bag!

The excitement keeps rolling at the Paradise Centre from June 26 to 28 with artist Kiel Tillman showcasing custom sneaker art outside Fast Times Skateboarding. From 12:00–4:00 pm, when you buy a fresh pair of kicks from Vans, Fast Times Skateboarding, Platypus Shoes, Surf Dive ‘N Ski, Novo Shoes or bring your own from home, you can pick a design from the flash sheet and have them personalised right then and there.

More entertainment awaits at the beachfront dining precinct, which will be coming alive with DJs, and skate seshes on the mega 7-m x 5-m ramp from 2:00–6:00 pm.  From July 1 – 5, the skate festivities roll on with roller skaters handing out skate-themed temporary tattoos for a post-skate treat.
