Be captivated by an explosive fusion of breathtaking audio-visual art, lasers and technology at Double Vision, part of ISEA 2024 EVERYWHEN. The opening night of Double Vision sees acts by New Zealand-based sound artist mHz and Tamil-Australian audio-visual artist Xenosine.
mHz will present ‘Brutalist Noise Ensemble v2′, an experimental performance piece that blends the physical and digital worlds around the interaction of light and sound, digital and physical, human and machine. Taking inspiration from brutalist architecture, this project is all about showing off what is raw and real, as unadorned sheets of metal, enclosed in simple wooden structures, are activated by electromechanical pulses, creating noises that glitch and bewitch.
Electromagnetic phenomena has always been at the centre of Vijay Thillaimuthu‘s practice. Under the moniker Xenosine, they present ‘Tesseract’, a vision of lasers and video projections as controlled by sound. Like how Carl Sagan famously used the Tesseract to discuss quantum theory, ‘Tesseract’ provokes a questioning of the mechanisms of perception, existence and knowledge, interacting between two- dimensional and three- dimensional space.
The event is free to attend, with a Pay What You Wish model. You can register attendance at the Brisbane Powerhouse website.
