Sunshine Coast welcomed a new addition to its growing roster of spirit brands this week with the launch of Harrington Bjugård Distilling. Co-founded by Ellinor and Nicholas, this new gin house has fused the pair’s respective Swedish and Australian heritages to brew a sophisticated debut recipe. Drawing upon classic techniques, mid-century aesthetics and robust botanicals, Harrington Bjugård Distilling is here to shake and stir the gin game.

Whilst the contemporary cool of Harrington Bjugård Distilling might feel right at home on Australian soil, this venture was originally planned for Stockholm. “Due to the geopolitical conflict in Europe, which impeded Nicholas’ acquisition of a resident permit, we redirected our plans, leading to the establishment of the distillery on the Sunshine Coast,” shares co-founder, Ellinor Bjugård.

Instead, the duo relocated to the sun-soaked towns of Nicholas’ hometown, the Sunshine Coast. Despite the new address, the European gin tradition remains pronounced thanks to the distillery’s state-of-the-art 250-litre artisan still sourced from the iconic Carl GmbH. With a copper and stainless steel design, the use of this esteemed equipment helps to elevate the quality and craftsmanship of the Harrington Bjugård brew. “Australian distilleries have established a remarkable foundation for producing some of the finest gin globally,” explains co-founder, Nicholas Logan. “Our objective is to further enhance and build upon this legacy.”

From there, the team was left to curate the flavour profile for this freshly Australian brew. “I strive to create spirits that enhance life’s moments,” adds Ellinor. “My goal is to craft beverages that allow the consumer to savour their experiences…”

Ellinor and Nicholas’ vision has come to life in the flavours of Harrington Bjugård Distilling’s Dry Gin – rich in the robust flavours from Macedonian Juniper, the herbal character from sage and a vibrant citrus undertone and balanced by the likes of cassia bark, Angelica root and liquorice root. With a mildly elevated ABV (alcohol by volume) compared to your typical gins, the fine-tuned flavour profile is enriched by the nuanced complexity of added strength. The result is complex and balanced, designed with the discerning palates of gin lovers in mind.

Once the flavour profile was mastered, the gin was bottled in the brand’s uniquely angular amber-toned bottle. This sleek design is an ode to Harrington Bjugård’s Swedish roots, mirroring the minimalism of Scandinavian design in its mid-century look.

Harrington Bjugård Distilling’s Dry Gin can be purchased via the brand’s website as well as selective stockists. Find out more here.
