The premise is simple – covert cupids distribute a range of specially wrapped bundles all around Australia for the unsuspecting public to find. The parcels contain a huge variation of local and international titles ready and waiting to be enjoyed, leaving the selection process totally up to fate – because you really should never judge a book by its cover.

This year, the Blind Date with a Book project is going a little bigger – to the tune of 500 copies of Penguin titles making their way to all corners of Australia. Street libraries and public transport will be dotted with a curated range of books including modern classics, in-house favourites and brand-new releases, with some titles even hinting at exciting upcoming releases. This latest drop will join the ranks of more than 5,000 novels already in circulation on Australian public transport. By some adorable coincidence, Valentine’s Day also happens to be International Book Giving Day, so the timing really couldn’t be better. If you’re out and about on Thursday February 14, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a precious Penguin parcel – you may just fall in love.
