If you stopped a stranger in the street and asked them to rank their favourite cuisines, Italian would most likely place at the top of their list. It’s the ultimate comfort food, synonymous with romantic date nights and wining and dining with family and friends. Luckily for us, West End favourite The Stores Grocer shares our love for Italian eats and is dishing up a salivation-worthy selection of pasta and ready-to-cook meals. These mouth-watering morsels are so good they will have you thinking you've boarded a plane and landed in Rome itself.

If it’s been a minute since you last visited The Stores Grocer in West End, we think it’s high time you made another trip. The much-loved Montague Road providore has been transformed into an airy European-style food hall under the culinary curatorship of Milanese head chef Jacopo Corbetta, whose rich culinary history includes a stint at Michelin-starred Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio as well as Bondi institution Icebergs, where he was head chef. So that you can get a taste of his home country, Jacopo has created a delicious range of hand-rolled pasta dishes and ready-to-cook meals using seasonal produce, fresh seafood and the grocer’s artisanal meat and cheese. We’re salivating already.

Available to enjoy in store or takeaway, the huge range of Italian-inspired eats includes menu heroes like lasagne alla bolognese, cannelloni filled with buffalo ricotta and spinach and eggplant parmigiana, plus more unique creations like smoked ricotta, pesto and zucchini lasagne or potato, pesto and ricotta lasagne. Those who plan on throwing a dinner party (and are also keen to take some of the credit for cooking) can bag fresh pasta concoctions like squid ink tagliolini, egg pasta (plain or kale) and gnocchi. All you have to do is cook the pasta until it’s al dente and throw in one of The Stores’ flavoursome sauces – our favourites include salsa pomodoro and ragu alla bolognese. Plant-based folk will be happy to hear that there are also vegan varieties of pasta as well as a huge range of salads to snack on.
