Breakfast Creek is set to get a green bridge so start lacing up those walking shoes

One of the most enticing traits of Brisbane is our city's abundance of scenic walkways. There is no better way to kick off your day than with a stroll by the riverside and one of our favourite places to do this is around Breakfast Creek. Soon, we’ll be able to make tracks a little further, as final designs for a proposed Breakfast Creek green bridge connecting Newstead to Albion have been lodged for approval.

Set to span 80 metres, Breakfast Creek’s new green bridge will quickly become a favourite amongst keen joggers, footsloggers and cyclists alike. The 67-million-dollar project will feature dedicated pathways for both pedestrians and cyclists (spanning six metres wide) and will join the existing Lores Bonney Riverwalk to Newstead Park. The green bridge will also prove to be a crucial transport link ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and will help to link the planned Athletes Village at Hamilton to the inner city.

Subject to approvals, Breakfast Creek’s new green bridge is expected to start construction in early 2022, with expected completion by late 2023, whilst Brisbane City Council expects a contract to be awarded by the end of this year. We can envision it now – a relaxing stroll by the waterfront, a quick stop for coffee at MICA Brasserie and a dose of fresh air to kick off another day in paradise. To learn more about the project, head over to the Brisbane City Council website.
