In the first half of 2016, AEG-Ogden – a subsidiary of the world’s largest live entertainment venue operator – announced plans to elevate Brisbane’s offering with the addition of a new mega entertainment precinct Brisbane Live. The Deputy Premier and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Jackie Trad recently announced to The Courier-Mail that the Labor government was committed to seeing the project completed, and that it would be delivered in partnership with the previously announced Cross River Rail system.
Both Labor and the LNP have announced support for the Brisbane Live project, guaranteeing that the $2 billion arena would be built above the existing Roma Street Parklands railway system. A master plan has been drawn up to take into account some more amenities, including linkages to broader Brisbane. The proposed development will see the installation of a 17,000 capacity arena, new residential towers and hotels, a potential metro station and Cross River Rail station, a dining precinct, new public spaces to enhance the Roma Street Parklands to 23 hectares and more. AEG also released some new renders showing off the façade of the proposed arena, which will feature a screen that will display programmable designs, inspired by AEG’s T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
