Fortitude Valley welcomes new event space High Church

Most Brisbane dwellers will be familiar with the beautiful converted church that sits atop Brisbane Modern Art Gallery on the corner of Brunswick and Malt Streets in Fortitude Valley. While the spot has sat unoccupied for the last few years, there was one woman who saw a vision for the space that she could not shake from her thoughts.

Venue and event consultant Nicolle Toohey has been obsessed with the church for more than five years, certain that she could transform the space into a boutique function space. Working in conjunction with building owners Emma and Andrew Golder (who also own Brisbane Modern Art Gallery downstairs), Nicolle’s vision has finally come to fruition, turning the building into the aptly named High Church.

High Church is a changeable venue catering to a variety of functions from corporate events to weddings, and can accommodate up to 250 guests in a cocktail setting, or up to 120 for a sit-down function. While the space comes complete with a commercial kitchen, tables, chairs and crystal chandeliers, it is open for those hiring to create whatever look and feel they desire. Hirers also have access to High Church’s range of suppliers, including caterers such as Alastair McLeod’s Al’FreshCo, Zen Catering, Gerard’s Bistro and Gramercy Coffee.

While functions have already been held at High Church, the venue will officially open on Saturday July 18.
