Sustainable sophistication is key for JD.Lee Furniture

We don’t often take a moment to consider the environmental impact of the furniture we acquire to adorn our house, which could be detrimental to the long term future of the planet. Thankfully, an entrepreneurial designer is addressing the issue on his own. JD.Lee Furniture creates stunning pieces that are made in a way that reduces waste from the design process through to completed construction.

Jeremy Lee is a furniture maker and designer that seeks to address how miscommunicated design can lead to unnecessary waste. Wasted time, energy and materials can result from poor design and execution, so with JD.Lee Furniture Jeremy seeks to take a forest to floor approach and follow a holistic approach to construction. Jeremy crafts and sells bespoke furniture such as sofas, dining tables, coffee tables, desks, arm chairs, beds and stools in addition to charming homewares, plant stands and lighting fixtures with minimal waste – using as much of the materials as possible.

JD.Lee Furniture’s range features an aesthetically minimalist and modern look, with clean lines and uncomplicated style. Everything is handmade in Jeremy’s workshop in the Byron Bay shire, with each piece lovingly crafted from sustainably sourced materials and natural finishes. Systems have been put in place to reuse waste elements such as sawdust, which goes to local permaculture gardens and farmers, while the wood cuttings from the furniture construction is also reused to make other useful homewares products. Read up on Jeremy’s process and approach on the JD.Lee Furniture website, then consider ordering a custom piece for your own home instead of opting for mass-produced and wasteful furnishings.
