$200-million Spire apartments planned for Brisbane City

A development application has been lodged for a new residential apartment tower in Brisbane City, sitting at 550 Queen Street.

Consolidated Properties has lodged the DA for a planned 39-level, 340-apartment tower named Spire, to be bordered by Queen and Adelaide Streets with construction set to commence mid-to-late 2015. The building’s moniker is inspired by its proximity to the iconic Saint John’s Cathedral, and its location will position Spire as the first major residential building at the entrance to the CBD from Fortitude Valley and Spring Hill. The building comprises both one- and two-bedroom apartments, with the location set to provide sweeping views over the city, the Brisbane River and the Story Bridge.

Designed by John Wardle Architects, the building’s design features a veil-like facade around the tower acting as both a privacy and sun shield, which expands around balconies and living areas to open up views, and contracts around bedrooms for privacy. Spire also includes a podium level, which folds back to ensure the view of Saint John’s steeple remains uninterrupted along Ann Street, as well as a rooftop infinity pool and sky garden, theatre room, library, private dining rooms and retail and cafes fronting Queen and Ann Streets.
