Appreciate art and cultivate culture with these unmissable events at Brisbane Writers Festival

The upcoming Brisbane Writers Festival will once again transform our fair city into a literary salon as its program unfurls 150 exciting events across four days. From May 30, a colourful cast of characters will wax lyrical on the wonder of the written word in all of its infinite varieties, including the way writing can encompass other art forms, like music or art – a picture is worth only a thousand words after all. We've put together a setlist of unmissable events exploring the ways that writing intermingles with other fascinating facets of art and culture – from ballerinas’ backstage drama to Aussie music icons and feminist art history.

Writing About Art

Through introspective fiction, criticism and sweeping surveys, this powerful panel featuring Bri Lee, Daniel Browning, Anna Kate Blair, Katy Hessel and Carody Culver considers the many stories of art. With VAULT Editor Alison Kubler, Katy talks about The Story of Art Without Men, her first book and a continuation of her mission to redress the gender imbalance in the art world, considering the women that art history forgot, ignored or erased. David McAllister: Ballet Confidential

Australian Cinema: Cast Mates by Sam Twyford-Moore
Succumb to the glamour of the silver screen with Sam Twyford-Moore’s Cast Mates, a delectable slice of social history exploring Australia’s relationship with cinema, starting with the world’s very first feature film, The Story of the Kelly Gang, made in Melbourne and released in 1906.
