Local kids speak their truths at thought-provoking GOMA exhibition Now is the Time

Listen up, little mates. Now is the time. In this unprecedented year of global questioning, uprising and evolving, there’s no better time than the present to share your thoughts on climate change.

Provocative artist Raquel Ormella has collaborated with local students to produce the fascinating new exhibition Now is the Time, while also inviting more Brisbane youngsters to voice their views on climate change and the environment. Presented at the Children’s Art Centre in GOMA, the free, interactive exhibition highlights Australia’s long history of environmental activism and encourages some of the youngest members of our community to participate in this important conversation.

A playlist of protest music sets the scene for young art-lovers to design their own protest t-shirts, before watching their message displayed in an animated protest scene. Inspiration is dished up from both the past in the form of historical photos and posters, as well as the present via videos from current Junction Park State School students. Check out several films featuring the students performing protest songs and sharing their opinions on climate change with the artist. Entry to the Children’s Art Centre is currently limited to 30 people at a time due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the exhibition may present further interactive opportunities as regulations change. The exhibition will run until August 1, 2021. Find more information about Now is the Time on the GOMA website.
