The Cat Empire and Thundamentals to headline Teneriffe Festival’s stacked 2024 block party

Brisbane’s annual-riverside street party Teneriffe Festival returns for its 13th year on Saturday June 8 with another day of delectable bites and brews from some of Brisbane’s finest. The one-day fiesta is also returning with a stellar music program, headlined by some absolute legends of the Australian scene.

Once a year, Tereriffe’s idyllic fig-tree-lined and woolstore-stacked Vernon Terrace erupts in celebration of the suburb’s vibrant community. The sprawling street party sees the precinct’s bars and restaurants spill out onto the road, whilst neighbouring venues, breweries, distilleries and food trucks flock to join in on the action.

In addition to the exclusive menus and pop-up wine gardens, Teneriffe Festival is one of Brisbane’s most eagerly anticipated events thanks in large part to its live-entertainment program. In previous years, the festival’s stages have been graced by a number of world-class music acts like Boy & Bear and Mashed & Kutcher – and this year is no exception.

For 2024, Teneriffe Festival snagged Melbourne-based outfit The Cat Empire to close out the night with its funk-infused tunes. The six-piece band has been a staple of Aussie music for over two decades – famed for its reimagined jazz sound and addictive lyrics. The ‘Hello’-singers will be joined by Aussie hip-hop heavyweights Thundamentals. Hailing from the Blue Mountains, this trio is best known for tracks like ‘Sally’, ‘My Favourite Song’ as well as its many star-studded collaborations.  The Cat Empire and Thundamentals are joined by Josh Pyke, Bones and Jones and many more. The recent cancellations of tentpole multi-day festivals in the past few weeks has only served to motivate organisers more. Michael Wilkins, chairman of Teneriffe Festival shares, “This year we are prioritising exciting acts and activations … Unfortunately, 2024 has already seen huge challenges in the festival industry across Australia and internationally … We’re so excited to be bringing the Teneriffe Festival back.”

The all-ages event will host a program as diverse as the Teneriffe community. Beyond the culinary delights, tipples and tunes, the festival’s dedicated kids zone will return with roaming performers, face painting and more. This year, Brisbane’s most-famous resident Bluey will be making an appearance – fresh off the back of her extended episode. Both Bluey and Bingo will be coming for the Live Interactive Experience, that promises to be packed with laughter and joy.

Teneriffe Festival, sponsored by Stone & Wood Brewing Co., is set to continue to release additional music acts, food and drink vendors and exciting activations in the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled for more news to come.
