Time to folk around – the Woodford Folk Festival returns to entertain and inspire

If you haven’t been to the Woodford Folk Festival, it’s almost impossible to describe it to someone else. Every year on the day after Boxing Day, tens of thousands of people flock to the paradise of Woodfordia to indulge in a constant stream of pure magic in the form of music, live art, performances, debates and more, coming together as a mini-community until it all culminates on New Year’s Day. The all-encompassing vibe may sound like a bit of a stretch, but believe us when we say this is one journey you need to take at least once in your life.

As per usual, the Woodford Folk Festival musical offering is second to none, offering up a sonic platter of some of the most exciting acts from both home and overseas across a range of genres. Heavy-hitters on this year’s bill include the likes of Kimbra, Julia Jacklin, Electric Fields, Jen Cloher, Stella Donnelly, Alex the Astronaut and Remi. When you add a range of around-the-clock entertainment and dozens more bands, it’s practically impossible to leave without a new favourite act. Oh, and did we mention that the likes of legends Dr. Karl and Costa Georgiadis will be headlining the speaking events? So good for the brain.

The concert component isn’t the only thing that keeps punters coming back for more – at Woodford Folk Festival you will find a range of activities to the tune of dancing spectaculars, street theatre, writers’ panels, comedy sessions, acoustic jams and stacks more. The festival has a huge rep for being clean, green and sustainably run, so it’s no surprise that there is an entire environmental program with talks, debates and films to help inspire and educate the masses. When you add art and craft workshops, circus performances and workshops, late night cabarets and one heck of a fire event, it makes sense to stay for more than just a day. This year’s edition also sees a number of infrastructure upgrades – think more shade, less dust and a more comfortable experience than ever before.

If you’ve found yourself craving some New Year’s cheer, you can check out the ticket and camping packages still available over at the Woodford Folk Festival website.
