Since its inception in New York in 2008 by world-renowned physicist Brian Greene and award-winning journalist Tracy Day, the World Science Festival has made its way to Australia as a Queensland Museum exclusive event. This celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths brings some of the world’s top brains into our backyard, with their knowledge distributed over more than 200 events. From Queensland firsts like the live presentation of 2001: A Space Odyssey to pearls of water wisdom from Peter Spinks in his Water Talks series, many facets of the world are given a look at through a scientific lens.
Amongst the workshops, discussions, walk-throughs and panels, there are a few events that are billed as must-sees. You can learn about the burgeoning global privacy crisis at Staying Connected, get a next-gen perspective on the challenges facing our planet at The Future is in Good Hands and get on board with renewables at On or Off the Grid. For those interested in how art and science work together, When Science Meets Art and Degas Revealed provide some serious insight into the magic that happens when these two worlds collide.
