Pavement Whispers: Volume 133 August 1

From whispers of new food and entertainment precincts to neighbourhood bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen
Newstead is about to discover a new meaning to the idea of the neighbourhood bar when Mrs Brown’s Bar & Kitchen opens in mid-to-late August on Commercial Road. The wholesome bar and eatery is focused not only on bringing together locals over home-style food and drinks, but is also working with its neighbours to present diners a more diverse offering. Head chef Adam Marino (ex-LONgTIME and Spirit House) has created a menu of The One Handers (bar snacks), salads, protein-based mains, sides and desserts – think everything from lamb pancakes and cheeseburger spring rolls to slow-cooked lamb shoulder and smashed roast potatoes. These dishes will sit alongside woodfired pizzas from Gianni’s Kitchen across the road and additional desserts from local La Macelleria Gelateria. Behind the bar you can expect wine from the barrel, 22 beer taps and a vast gin collection. We’ll have more details for you soon.

Chefs Inc.
Redlands residents, listen up! A new food and entertainment precinct is coming your way. The brainchild of Colin and Sharon Mason, Chefs Inc. is underway in the heart of Cleveland, set to bring a new weekly array of food, drinks and entertainment to the area. From late October, every Friday to Sunday will see a Cleveland car park transformed into a busting foodie hub, combining 12 permanent food containers with bars, a function room and live entertainment. The chefs from each container have been carefully chosen to ensure a vast multicultural offering, which will sit alongside a rotating selection of food trucks. In order to be considered, the guest food trucks have to offer something innovative and different from their usual menu, with Chefs Inc. committed to offering visitors something new every time they visit. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for details of each container soon!

Look, Learn, Wine & Dine
Fortitude Valley’s Madame Rouge has not only just launched a new menu – the French favourite has also announced a new monthly series of food and wine masterclasses called Look, Learn, Wine & Dine. Commencing on Saturday August 19, the classes will see restaurateur and chef Philip Johnson and Madame Rouge’s head chef Gert Pretorius work together to prepare and explain some of their favourite dishes, teaching attendees techniques and recipes to try at home. Guests will look at the talented chefs at work, learn restaurant-quality tricks, and then wine and dine on the dishes with matched wines. Head to our Event Guide for full details and ticketing information.
