Upon graduating from college in 2009 and moving from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, Alice Veivers began what would eventually evolve into one of the city’s most beloved homegrown labels – Alice Nightingale. Since the beginning, Alice Nightingale has attracted fans with its colourful and ethically sustainable approach to fashion, creating handcrafted garments from second-hand fabric. Until now, these pieces have been sold exclusively through pop-up appearances and online, but Alice Nightingale now has a physical home to call its own in new Fortitude Valley hub California Lane. Seeing as Alice’s garments are already loud and vibrant, the space was designed by Great North with a more subdued palette in mind. Simple timber fixtures and a pretty pastel aesthetic add life to the space, but keeps all attention angled towards the clothing racks, which are filled to the brim with Alice’s lively creations.
Anyone that boasts a piece of Alice Nightingale attire in their wardrobes will be acquainted with the designer’s style, which imbues femininity, humour and Alice’s love for puns across a range of items. The in-store selection will be ever evolving as new garments arrive weekly (as well as Alice Nightingale’s new range of shoes). Alice Nightingale’s online store will still run as normal, but those who enjoy meeting the maker of their beloved wardrobe fillers are encouraged to stop by. The Alice Nightingale boutique highlights the bespoke aspect of the brand, giving shoppers a chance to interact with Alice herself as she puts finishing touches on garments in store.
Alice Nightingale is now open in California Lane. For opening hours and other details, check out the Stumble Guide.
