Slippers may not seem like the most versatile of footwear, but you’d better believe that Bertie is changing the game. The brand is the brainchild of partners Libby and Will Carter, a North Bondi couple inspired by a love of hotel slippers and a desire for versatile footwear. The classic Prince Albert slipper served as inspiration for the shoe, with the name Bertie coming about as an homage – think of it like Albert’s naughty nephew. The result of contemporising the loafer design is a shoe for all seasons (and locations) – the durable unisex design can be worn wherever the heck you like, from the bedroom to the pub and even all dolled up.
The unique style of Bertie slippers was the result of Libby and Will working with a graphic designer to create CAD drawings, and then sourcing different samples to get the end product just right. All Bertie slippers have 100-percent leather soles with polyester velvet making up body of the shoe, and currently come in striking shades of peacoat navy, hunter green and mulberry red. The manufacturing all takes place in an ethical factory just outside of Shanghai, boasting a 25-year history that focuses on environmentally friendly production. While the brand is super young, we’ve heard whispers of exciting collaborations and future plans in the works – keep your eyes on Bertie’s socials for the scoop.
