February 2015 saw the opening of Barber Girl, an ultra-cool barber for women just off the busy thoroughfare of Oxford Street in Bulimba. Owner Rachelle Palecas took inspiration from her husband’s business, The Men’s Lounge Barber, and decided to open a cutting salon exclusively for women. Barber Girl fills a gap in the market for women who are too busy to schedule and appointment, students who can’t afford salon prices or women simply looking for a casual and inviting spot to get a snip. The scissor-wielders specialise in trendy cuts such as fades, undercuts and side sweeps and exclusively stock products from REF, which contain no sulphate or parabens. The interior design is a mixture of edgy, street-style and tranquil inner-city retreat with art and plants adorning the space in equal measure. Barber Girl is a no appointment salon – simply drop by and take a seat on the comfortable couch and enjoy a cider while you wait.
