When walking in to Brisbane Pop Culture, you almost expect to see Tim Burton standing behind the counter and Helena Bonham Carter restocking the shelves. An ode to alternative popular culture, Brisbane Pop Culture brims with merchandise ranging from The Walking Dead figurines to Marvel comics collectables and Hello Kitty paraphernalia. There’s also the odd minion from Despicable Me amongst the shelves, as well as an extensive selection Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. The shop is tended by owners Turtle and Emma-leigh, who owned a tattoo shop in Ascot before expanding their own personal stash of collectables – which includes the giant Frankenstein behind the counter – into a store. They still practise their trade in the tattoo room out the back.
