The iconic and heritage-listed Customs House has sat proudly on the banks of the Brisbane River since its erection in 1889. In 1994, the building was purchased and upgraded by the University of Queensland, which established it as one of Brisbane’s preeminent function locations. Although the site regularly hosts numerous prestigious events in its many function halls and rooms, many passer-by’s are unaware that Customs House is also home to an award-winning restaurant and bar, which is open to the public throughout the week. The Customs House restaurant showcases a range of local tastes, with a menu of modern Australian cuisine utilising fresh, seasonal produce. The lunch and dinner menu offers delectable morsels such as twice-baked goat’s cheese soufflé with tomato, asparagus and hazelnut salad, Coffin Bay oysters, Mooloolaba prawns, Moreton bay bugs, pan-seared snapper with warm broad bean, baked ricotta and pancetta salad and chargrilled eye fillet with cauliflower and carrot puree. The bar stocks upwards of 200 wines, as well as cocktail jugs and share plates for snacking. Customs House also hosts free music concerts regularly, and will be housing an exclusive pop-up bar in the coming weeks.
