Nestled within the hallowed halls of Queensland Parliament is a hidden trove of history and gastronomy. Strangers’ Restaurant is a rare culinary gem, which has been serving as a discreet haven for politicians and distinguished guests for an astonishing 150 years. For most of its history, Strangers’ Restaurant has been closed to the public, but it opened in June 2019 to invite ‘strangers’ for lunch and dinner on select days. Here, the term ‘stranger’ is used to describe any visitor to Parliament House who wasn’t a member of parliament or parliamentary officer. Executive chef Anthony Naylor leads the meticulous creation of a sumptuous three-course seasonal menu, featuring Queensland’s finest locally-sourced ingredients. For those seeking an extended culinary adventure, indulge in a five-course tasting menu available on Friday evenings. Bookings are essential and can be made here, entry to the restaurant is via the Parliamentary Annexe Building on Alice Street.
