If you’re familiar with our list of Brisbane’s best sandwich spots, then the name The Bakeologists is likely a very familiar one. Not only does the New Farm bakery boast a bonza bounty of sambos (we’re partial to the New Yorker and its layers of shredded corned beef, gherkin relish, mustard mayo and Swiss cheese), but it also serves a suite of carb-loaded goodies like artisanal bread loaves, pies and hot savouries, sweets and barista-brewed coffee. Well, good news for locals in Brisbane’s western suburbs – have a Bakeologists location to call your own! The Bakeologists has opened another location at The Gap Football Club on Glen Affric Street, taking over the canteen-style space formerly home to Walton’s Pantry. Overlooking the soccer fields, this location is a little bit larger than its New Farm sibling, with a collection of picnic tables offering more seats for folks looking to dine in. With a bit of extra elbow room comes the opportunity for The Bakeologists team to expand its range slightly. Here the crew is slinging the same breads, pies, sandwiches and sweets, but with a few extras – think avocado on toast, and a deli fridge stocked with Maleny Milk and a selection of sausages, burgers, house-smoked ham and bacon from Rayner’s Meats). The Bakeologists in The Gap will also sell whole cakes for those looking for something sweet to anchor a celebration feast – options include Victoria sponge cake, French-inspired Gâteau Concorde, and hazelnut and salted caramel. As always, Merlo coffee will also be on offer.
