Sumner-based craft-beer and distilling operation White Lies Brewing is set to have a big year, with plans in the works for a second brewpub space. After operations reached a threshold at the brewery’s Spine Street headquarters, White Lies owner Lee McAlister-Smiley figured the business needed to relocate or grow with a second site. Lee opted for the latter and quickly began scouting Brisbane’s western suburbs for a suitable space, finding the ideal location in Seventeen Mile Rocks – walking distance from Rocks Riverside Park. With the site secured, Lee is in the process of lodging applications to develop it into a family-friendly and community-oriented destination as well as a space for White Lies Brewing to grow and expand its output. Lee has secured new brewing gear that will allow for the production of just under 200,000 litres per annum as well as a canning line to boost White Lies’ packaged product. As for the brewpub itself, expect an industrial-chic aesthetic, room for a kids play area and plenty of seating inside and out. The creation of Lee’s spirit-based offshoot Ginesis will remain at the Sumner hub, while much of the beer production (barring some of White Lies’ limited brews) will take place at Seventeen Mile Rocks. Much of the above is still pending approval, but if everything goes to plan Lee is aiming to start beer production at site by the end of June, with the official opening of the brewpub slated for the end of this year.
