Get revved up at Smoked Garage’s impressive new showroom and cafe

It was a sad day for motorcycle enthusiasts when Smoked Garage packed up its workshop space on Bridge Street. The blues were short lived when it was revealed that the popular custom motorcycle business wasn't gone for good, only relocating a short distance. The move has proved fortuitous – Smoked Garage’s new space is pretty darn impressive, and you can dispel any thoughts of grease-coated workshops.

When Smoked Garage’s original premises changed ownership, the custom motorcycle crew encountered hurdles securing a long-term lease. Instead of signing on for an unsatisfactory deal, the team decided to take a risk and strike out on its own, purchasing a cavernous three-level space on Wickham Street, in which the brand could evolve and flourish unimpeded. As far as new homes go, Smoked Garage couldn’t have picked a space more suited to its needs and aspirations. The new venue features rustic and weathered touches like exposed-brick walls, wooden beams, vintage decorations and ample natural light offering a fantastic canvas on which to work. If you’d like a closer look at the interior details, check out our gallery in The Street Photographer.

Smoked Garage’s basement level has been converted into the business’s custom motorcycle workshop, equipped with flashy new toys for vehicular assembly and space for six technicians. A ground-floor space has been given over to a cafe area and showroom, where patrons can sink into cushy antique furniture amongst the bikes and racks of stylish apparel, sipping on Brewtown coffee and grab-and-go snacks and sweets. The coming months will see this iteration of Smoked Garage evolve even further, with a forthcoming kitchen and bar coming before the year is out. Finally, the third level will be transformed into a sizeable event space complete with a glass ceiling, which will run the length of the building.

Smoked Garage’s showroom and cafe are both open. Hit up the Stumble Guide for opening hours and contact details.
