Coming into its 13th fabulous year, the Brisbane Billycart Championships are a great opportunity for both little and big kids to indulge in some good clean fun. The races are a project from the Rotary Club of Carindale and run in conjunction with the ever-popular Green Heart Fair, shining a light on clean and green lifestyles (because what’s more eco-friendly than a fuel-free, man-powered cart?). Participants from all over Southeast Queensland are invited to come and race their own billycarts, but the Rotary Club also has a great selection of carts ready to go if you haven’t found time to build your own.
This year, the organisers of the Brisbane Billycart Championships have developed an even more intense need for speed – so much so that they have constructed a brand-new ramp to launch the budding billycarts off. Speeds are expected to reach up to about 30kph, which is pretty impressive considering the handmade nature of the carts. As well as competing for the fastest time, racers can have a crack at taking home a trophy for the best dressed team and the most imaginative cart design – so if you’re planning to get rolling on the day, feel free to let your imagination run wild!
Keen to get involved? You can register for the Brisbane Billycart Championships online in advance, but you can also register at Green Heart Fair on the day. The Brisbane Billycart Championships and Green Heart Fair are happening thanks to Brisbane City Council’s commitment to delivering a cleaner, greener Brisbane.
