Brisbane Comedy Festival is cramming a lot of goodness into its four-week reign next year, wrangling a massive 75 acts across the entire program. The spread of talent includes international guests, Australian comedy sweethearts, Brisbane legends and a healthy pinch of emerging talent to keep us on our toes. Those coming by plane include English funnymen Ross Noble, Jeff Green and Rod Kemp, Scotsmen Danny Bhoy, Daniel Sloss and Larry Dean, Canada’s very own DeAnne Smith, New Zealand neighbour Paul Williams, plus Venezuelan Ivan Aristeguieta. The local contingent includes showings from legends like Dave Hughes, Tom Ballard, Tim Ferguson, Nazeem Hussain, Lawrence Mooney, Mel Buttle, Damien Power and Becky Lucas.
Next year’s Brisbane Comedy Festival showing isn’t just about the stand-up heroes – you can also catch some of the finest group sketches and family-friendly comedy. All-star acts and collectives to the tune of Frocking Hilarious, Queerstories and Lady Sings It Better join Shit-faced Shakespeare making its Brisbane debut with A Midsummer Night’s Dream – as if that doesn’t sound like a recipe for some serious knee slapping. The more PG-rated contingent of the festival comes in the form of a brand-new dedicated family program that will showcase imrov comedy, game show-style fun, toilet humour and class clowns – you know, all the stuff that we still laugh at as adults but use kids as an excuse to enjoy.
