Sky Ferreira, Explosions in the Sky, Yves Tumor and many more are bringing the heat to Brisbane this winter with Open Season Festival

It looks like it’s going to be a hot winter this year, with Open Season Festival’s sizzling 2024 line-up bringing indie-music greats to Brisbane. From Saturday June 1 to Sunday August 25, The Tivoli and The Princess Theatre will be hosting a fleet of local legends, national treasures and big-name international acts for this multi-month festival – just in time to break you out of seasonal hibernation. Here’s what you need to know …

Back for its fourth year, Open Season has quickly become a staple of Brisbane’s cultural calendar, bringing a diverse medley of artists to two of Brisbane’s most beloved live-music venues. This year could be its best yet – snagging so much goodness like international heavyweights and street parties that the wintertide festival is taking to the streets.

Kicking off on the first day of winter (Saturday June 1), inner-city hub King Street will be enlivened for an all-ages street party celebrating First Nations excellence. Blak Day Out is set to offer First Nations food, culture and music including ARIA-nominated Emma Donovan as she headlines the program alongside 3%, Dallas Woods, Nooky, Angus Field and Meanjin locals BADASSMUTHA and The Ancient Bloods.

Across The Tivoli and The Princess Theatre, you’ll find a host of live music from post-rock musings to celestial soul sounds. The dynamic rock group Explosions in the Sky is tripping across the pond to join the festival’s line-up along with Brooklyn-born INIKO. The songstress is making her Aussie debut after gaining viral traction on TikTok for her warm and whimsical hits.

A decade after her debut cult-classic album, singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira is making her return to Brisbane. Whilst still yet to release her sophomore album, Sky is an indie-pop staple and will be taking The Princess Theatre after her highly anticipated appearances at Vivid Sydney and Melbourne’s Rising Festival. In addition to this musical enigma, the genre-bending polymath Yves Tumor is coming to Brisbane for his fiercely long-awaited debut Aussie tour.

You can also expect plenty of all-ages events from kid-approved artists, all-night dance parties at Winn Lane by QUIVR, experimental performances and Australia’s largest street-art festival.

Find the full Open Season program here. Tickets are on sale from 9:00 am Wednesday March 27.
