The initiative by QMusic – Queensland’s music-industry development association and producer of BIGSOUND and the Queensland Music Awards – has been developed to support the industry by providing online platforms to develop skills, knowledge and tools, as well as establishing connections for artists and music professionals. While it officially went live this week, QMusic Connect will roll out in three stages over the next six months through a series of curated workshops, masterclasses and online panel discussions.
Stage One: Crisis Talks is a series of six immediate-response sessions addressing the impact that COVID-19 has had on the industry and individuals, which runs through until April 15. The panel sessions, which cover topics from mental health to grants, funding opportunities and public relations, can all be viewed live or post-event via the QMusic Facebook page. Stage Two: Regional Support (April 16–21, also via Facebook) features lived-streamed workshops aimed at industry workers local to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Cairns, touching on relevant regional grants, initiatives, counselling services, gig opportunities, community support and more. The Stage Three: The Masterclass Series runs from April 23 to June 4 and aims to give musicians and professionals a greater understanding of the industry. This masterclass stage will be delivered online via seven live sessions with experts from all areas delving deep into niche tops like streaming services and track pitching, balancing tour budgets and building a media list.
