The new-look Redland Performing Arts Centre has a key purpose – to position itself as a top live-music venue, hosting world-class performances for the community. Its impressive exterior gives way to a classy, cloistered interior, perfect for those who still love to rock and roll all night, but would perhaps like a comfy spot to sit while they do it. Tiered seating and state-of-the-art acoustics mean no matter where you’re sitting in the 550-seat Concert Hall, you can feel up close and personal with the stage, with no drop of emotion or sick power cord passing you by.
“My shows are all about connecting with the audience so I love playing intimate venues like RPAC’s Concert Hall where I can have a chat and a laugh with people,” says five-time ARIA winner and Killing Heidi frontwoman Ella Hooper. Ella, who is headlining the venue’s first gig on Friday April 5, with an evening of music and storytelling featuring all of the hits off her Small Town Temple album and a few new never-before-heard songs.
RAPC’s stellar 2024 line-up also includes Cold Chisel legend Ian Moss on May 10 with his Rivers Run Dry Acoustic Tour, John Williamson (September 22), and an evening of songs, stories and soul from family and Country with Emma Donovan on May 18. Sparkle on with Marcia Hines’ Still Shining 50th Anniversary Concert Tour on Sunday August 11 or catch up with Brissy queen Kate Miller-Heidke for her Catching Diamonds show on September 10 – which teases some new ‘gothic folk’ sounds from her forthcoming sixth studio album.
Travel down memory lane with Glenn Shorrock and Brian Cadd as The Two Amigos on November 17, or hear the Choirboys spill the beans on sex, drugs, and rock’ n’ roll in Run to Paradise (October 12). Let your blues out with Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows as they celebrate Live from The Shangri-La on September 26 or spend the evening of November 2 with the dynamic duo of soul sisters Vika and Linda Bull.
With your go card in hand, the Redland Performing Arts Centre is only a convenient train ride away from central Brisbane, just off the Cleveland station. Or car lovers can make use of the venue’s new drop-off zone and expanded onsite free parking – courtesy of its fancy new funding from federal, state and local governments, who all agreed RPAC deserved a little treat.
